Auto repair answering service vs. voicemail

Voicemail is free and always on. Here's an honest look at what you get from each, and when an AI answering service is worth $99 a month.

What voicemail gives you

Voicemail costs nothing and never misses a call. But you only get what the caller decides to say. Some leave a full message. Some leave a name and a number you can't make out. Some hang up without leaving anything. Then someone on your team has to listen to each one, write down the details, and call back to ask the questions the message didn't answer.

What an AI answering service gives you

No Missed Repairs answers the call and asks the questions for you. Every caller is asked for their name, callback number, vehicle, the problem, and whether the car is drivable. Then you get an email with all of it laid out, a summary, the full transcript, and a recording link that's good for 7 days.

When voicemail is probably enough

If you rarely miss calls, your callers reliably leave good messages, and you don't get Spanish-speaking callers, voicemail may be fine. Run the numbers on what missed calls cost a repair shop before you spend anything.

When an answering service makes sense

What it won't replace

It doesn't book appointments, quote prices, or diagnose cars, and it doesn't connect to shop management software yet. Your team still makes the call back. If booking is a must, competitors that book appointments list $109 to $297 a month; see the comparison.

Switching is simple

You keep your number. Forward your line to the receptionist when you're closed, busy, or don't pick up. Every call starts by saying it's an AI and that the call is recorded, in English and Spanish.

Built by a shop owner

No Missed Repairs is run by Ben Parker, owner of Cooper & Bimmer Experts, a BMW and MINI shop in Irwindale, California. He built it for his own after-hours line first and now sets it up for shops outside his area.

Hear it for yourself

Call the demo line: (626) 657-5274. Talk to it like a customer would, in English or Spanish. When it asks, give it your email and it'll send you a copy of the transcript.

Questions

Is an answering service better than voicemail?

It depends on how many calls you miss. An answering service asks every caller for their name, number, vehicle, and problem and emails you the transcript; voicemail only gets what the caller chooses to say.

Do I have to change my shop's phone number?

No. You get a new number for the receptionist and set your existing line to forward to it after hours, when busy, or when nobody answers. Forwarding is set with your phone company or phone system; we'll send you steps.

Does it book appointments?

No. It takes a detailed message and your team calls the customer back to schedule.

Does it tell callers it's an AI?

Yes, in the first sentence of every call, in English and Spanish, and it never claims to be a person. It also announces that the call is recorded.

How much does it cost?

$99 a month with 200 minutes included, $0.25 a minute after that, and a one-time $199 setup. There's a 3-month minimum, then it's month to month.
