What missed calls cost an auto repair shop

You don't need an industry statistic to figure this out. Your own numbers will tell you, and the math takes about two minutes.

Why missed calls matter in a repair shop

Most repair work starts with a phone call. When a call goes unanswered, you don't know who it was, what car it was, or whether they'd have become a customer. Some will call back. Some will call the next shop. The question is how many jobs that adds up to for your shop, and that depends on your shop.

We're not going to quote you a number pulled from someone else's survey. Here's how to work out your own.

Step 1: Count the calls you miss

Check your phone system or carrier for missed and after-hours calls over a normal week. If you can't pull that report, keep a tally for a week: every voicemail, every hang-up, every call that rang while everyone was busy.

Step 2: Estimate how many were real work

Not every call is a job. Some are sales calls, wrong numbers, or customers checking on a car. Be honest and estimate what share of those missed calls were people who needed a repair or service.

Step 3: Use your own average repair order

Take your average ticket from your shop software, and your rough close rate on phone inquiries. Then:

missed calls a month × share that were real work × close rate × average repair order = work at risk each month

It's a rough number, and it should be. It's still more useful than guessing, because every input is yours.

Step 4: Compare it to the cost of answering

No Missed Repairs is $99 a month with 200 minutes included, $0.25 a minute after that, and a one-time $199 setup, with a 3-month minimum. Put that next to your monthly number from Step 3 and see how many recovered jobs it would take to cover it. For a lot of shops the question becomes whether answering those calls is worth one job a month.

What answering the call actually gets you

An answered call isn't a booked job. No Missed Repairs doesn't book appointments, quote prices, or diagnose cars. What it does is make sure the caller talks to someone, in English or Spanish, and that you get their name, callback number, vehicle, problem, and whether the car is drivable in an email with the full transcript. Then your team calls back with everything they need. If you'd rather have an AI that books directly into your calendar, other services do that, usually at a higher monthly price (see the comparison on our homepage).

Call the demo line: (626) 657-5274. Talk to it like a customer would, in English or Spanish. When it asks, give it your email and it'll send you a copy of the transcript.

Questions

How many calls does an auto repair shop miss?

It varies by shop, so we don't quote an average. Check your phone system's missed-call report, or keep a tally for a normal week.

How do I calculate the cost of missed calls?

Multiply missed calls per month by the share that were real repair work, by your close rate on phone inquiries, and by your average repair order. Use your own numbers.

Will an AI receptionist book the job for me?

No Missed Repairs doesn't book appointments. It takes a complete message and emails you the transcript so your team can call back.

How much does it cost?

$99 a month with 200 minutes included, $0.25 a minute after that, and a one-time $199 setup. There's a 3-month minimum, then it's month to month.

What if I go over 200 minutes?

It keeps answering. Extra minutes are $0.25 each, billed on your next invoice.
